PMOS (formerly PCOS): hormones and metabolism, treated as one

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) has a new name: polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome, or PMOS. The new name, agreed internationally in 2026, reflects what research has shown for years: this is not just about the ovaries. It affects your cycle, skin and hair, and very often your metabolism. Many women with PMOS also have insulin resistance, which is why treating it without looking at metabolism often misses half the picture.

Does this sound familiar?

  • “My periods are irregular or don’t come at all.”

  • “I have acne, unwanted hair growth or thinning hair on my head.”

  • “I gain weight easily, especially around my belly, and it won’t shift.”

  • “I have cravings and energy crashes after meals.”

  • “I want to get pregnant, and it isn’t working.”

How we approach it

We look at your hormones and your metabolism together, including blood sugar and insulin sensitivity and, if suitable, continuous glucose monitoring. Depending on your goals, your plan can include hormonal treatment, metabolic support, weight management, nutrition and cycle tracking. PMOS and its metabolic effects are at the centre of Dr. Yvonne Tuszing’s research.
